Do the coupe and the sedan share a single body panel?
I have no idea why both vehicles have the same name.

I think they were—until the sedan was redesigned—on related platforms.

Does a 6-series share a single body panel with the 5-series?
No.
Under the skin though, they are exactly the same.

Do the 5 series and the 6 series have the same name?
I think you've missed my point.

Because Genesis as a name deserves more than just a sedan or just a coupe. Be happy they didnt name the whole lineup Genesis.

Hey nobody hates Korea here. We just remember...

I understand your contention, but now I am curious if there is any precedent for what Hyundai has done here.
In my eyes it would be like Chrysler calling the PT cruiser, the Neon Wagon. Yes the underpinnings are the same, but the vehicles have little in common in terms of appearance.

K den.
How many body panels do the E90 3-series and its coupé version share? Next to none. Do they have the same name? Yes.

However they do look very similar.
Do these two cars look similar to you?

And yet some “Jalops” consider Malaise-era cars to be future classics.

I think it May have to do with the idea that these car represent a premium view of hyundia so they are Genesis of sorts for the company.(is my half baked theory)

That makes sense.
I just had a thought. Do the s-class and the s-class coupe look pretty much alike for the most part?

I am now just trying to think of cars that have the same name but look nothing alike. I thought I might have been close with the s-class.
It's a slow day at work.

Thing is with coupés you generally don’t have to bother with practicality. This allows the designers to be more creative with the design and experiment with different styling features. Coupés are also something of a niche market so the manufacturer can afford to implement styling features that drive the cost of the car up such as especially complex body panels. Besides, the Genesis is far from the only car where Coupé and Sedan differ drastically.

They redesigned the sedan now when can we see a redesigned coupe?

I’m just as confused as you are about that, but at least some of those awful cars are still on the road. Korean cars from the same era seem to have disintegrated. Maybe literally in some cases.
